My client, a custom brokerage and freight service provider, had a requirement for a flexible and widely accessible status tracking mechanism for their freight operators. The system had to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from both stationary and mobile devices. In response to those requirements, I have developed and implemented a web based Shipment Status Tracking system that provides the carriers with the most up-to-date shipment order status. Using this system, the truck drivers can instantly confirm all the border crossing requirements are in order, allowing them to proceed with their shipment.

The moment the shipment status is requested, the Canada Border Service Agency server is queried, and the most up-to-date shipment status is obtained and displayed on a standard internet browser. The status confirmation does not require any staff involvement, and is viewable on a wide range of mobile devices like cell phones, PDAs, etc., as long as those devices have access to the public Internet.

This system is continuously saving my customer a significant amount of staff time, and has practically eliminated a need for responding to after hours telephone queries.
